WordPress just released its latest update, WordPress version 4.0*, named “Benny” in honor of jazz clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman.
WordPress.org is the much loved and widely used blogging platform which I usually recommend for small business owners like yourself. It is free to use, WordPress is a community project, and you can choose from thousands of themes and plugins to customize your site.
*This latest update is a major release, if you already use WordPress than you need to initiate the update manually.
Language Set Up
Since WordPress (WP) is used around the world and powers websites in many different languages, this first update is an important one. Before you had to either manually upload translation files or install a localized version. With WP 4.0 you can now choose your preferred/native language as the first step in the installation process.
Searching for plugins is now faster and you can switch between features, favorites and popular plugin tabs. The search results appear in boxes and show much more useful information than before. More about WordPress plugin maintenance.
If you used the WordPress post editor in the past than you know how frustrating the scroll bar (sometimes even multiple ones) could be. The post editor will now automatically adjust itself as you write, this is a huge improvement.
Another great improvement to WP 4.0 is the embed function in the visual post editor. As a users you can now see your embeds, like YouTube videos, right away. Simply copy a video URL or other supported embeds into the visual editor and it will be visible right inside the page without having to preview.
Welcome to the new and improved WP media library. You will now be able to see your uploads in a grid layout with infinite scroll. This makes searching and browsing for images and media much faster than before, therefore providing a much better user experience as well.
Widgets have now been included in the theme customize section. This essentially minimizes the widgets when not needed, things could get a little crowded before the update.
There are also updates for developers, like being able to group options on panels, and ‘under the hood’ improvements.
I am very delighted with the new post editor and how it adjusts itself. All in all this latest WordPress Update gives us every day bloggers/site owners a much improved user experience. Thank you for that!
